MLO 6: Information Technology Literacy
During my university carrier at CSUMB I had the opportunity to learn new ways to do research. One of the factors that benefited me as a student was the fact that the Liberian offered seminars where she showed us how to gather information, not only basic or detail information but useful to the topic of the individual. It was useful because there is now in the World Wide Web a variety of false information, she showed us to use scholarly journals or articles that the university research programs offered. I had the opportunity to visit her seminars during three occasions with difference instructors; every time I went I learn something new that was helpful to do research. One of the things that are useful for students is the interlibrary loans program. This program lets student’s barrow books that are not available at their local library but are available in another university, this way the student can barrow the book for a limited amount of time and make use of it to extract the information that the individual needs. One of the ways that I used technology during my whole academic carrier was to do research, it’s an important factor that each students needs to learn and be able to apply. Using the techniques that I learn made the research part easier and I could use some of the database that the university offered to us as students. An advantage of using the databases was that the student can narrow their search, we can choose between articles, books, newspapers or a more specific search that focuses on one word. Doing research in Spanish was a great opportunity to apply what I had already learn, I focus more on books and web articles that were available either on line or at the book section. The use of technology helped me to locate some sources that were not available at the university library. I use technology to search for some books that I needed for my capstone project at my local library, I went into their site and use a very specific search making the results narrow, by doing this I was able to save time and didn’t gave me books that I didn’t need. The capstone project this year was done differently than the years before everything had to be done on line, for our portfolio we need to use the scanner to show some of the work that we did electronically. The use of technology has been very helpful to us; it has made our ability to do research more accessible.
