Based on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), the student should be able to communicate and understand everyday situations by native language without difficulty, and to respond to them effective and coherently to their conversations. Other requirements are to comprehend conversations, to understand all kind of documents main ideas. The student should be able to know different styles writings: epistolary, fiction and non-fiction. Alongside, students should demonstrate knowledge of syntactic structures and semantics.
According to these requirements, my language proficiency of Spanish is very advance given that Spanish is my native language, and before coming to the United States, my education level in Cuba, native country, was higher education. I am fascinated with words which have always inspirited me to read and write. Communication is another of my specialties since I come from a country that social interaction is a lifestyle more than a choice.
The fact that I love my native language leads me to appreciate it even more. I have always had inclination for literature. I perceive this artistic expression as a testimony of a culture. For me, authors and their works are products of a socioeconomic, political, and historical outcome of a personal interpretation of their daily experiences in a given society. Following this passion, I have seen myself merging deep in what writers and intellectuals share in their texts.
