MLO 2: Language and Linguistic Knowledge
Meeting this MLO was very important to my language development in so many ways; first of all, I was able to develop a more intense vocabulary, and I learned how to use professional language whenever I needed go give an oral presentation.
In order to meet this MLO I took Spanish 305 during the spring of 2012. This course gave me the opportunity to develop a higher standard language and it also helped me a lot with my professional vocabulary. On the other hand, my writing ability improved, since I had to write official letters to companies in looking for a job, as well as formal letters of recommendation, resume, and I also had the chance to design my own business card.
During the time taking the course I also learned techniques about going into job interviews, having a better understanding of what to do and what not to do in an official job interview, one of the techniques I learned was to talk about something else at the very beginning of the interview, rather than the job itself. For example I learned that it is good to talk about he weather, and never to be the first one to mention salary.
One of the areas I found challenging about this MLO was the fact that I had to get used to talk in a more professional way during this class, not having the practice to do so was a bit challenging; however, after a while I got used to and every time I had to be professional was easier.
For the future I hope I can develop my professional language skills to my fullest potential to be able to be successful in my career lif
