Rivera: MLO4
I met MLO 4 outcome: secondary cultural knowledge by completion of the Human Communication 322 course. This HCOM 322 course was about the Asian American literature, in this class I gain knowledge about Asian American culture, beliefs, ideas, and values through the many papers I wrote. It was interesting the different types of literature that I read and that help me gain knowledge’s about Asian American culture. I also fulfilled this outcome because I able to compare and contrast cultural perspectives. I developed the ability to compare and contrast not only my county's culture (Mexico), but also with Asian American, and American culture. The beliefs, ideas, values differ from culture to culture but there are some similarities as well. In the Asian American literature class I was able to demonstrate my understanding of the ways of thinking, values, and beliefs of this culture through my analytical paper that I wrote, as my final paper. In my final paper I was able to identify the identity of many of the characters, and how one came become confuse for their true identity when been in a different country than one’s native and been around in an environment different than ones. I illustrated the confusion of their true identity of many characters I selected from seven different pieces of literature, and novels. I develop the ability to understand Japanese culture, their cultural traditions, beliefs and values. I also examine a Hispanic culture to which I can relate since is similar to how I was raise. I also gain knowledge of Bengali culture. I illustrated how all this character from Asian American, America, Japanese, Hispanic and Bengali culture come confuse of their true identity at some point in their lives, but at the end they all are able to find their true identity. I also was able to examine and comprehend Asian American poetry. I specifically studied three poems; A rose of Sharon, My Sweetest Lesbia, On Such a Day. This class was very interesting for me because I have never taken any other cultural class other than my native culture Hispanic; therefore, learning about Asian American literature was a great experience for me. Asian literature is very interesting and good to understand. The Asian literature that I read in this course had one thing in common, the main idea of all these pieces was being able to find their true identity, when they came confuse about their identity. I especially studied in depth Asian American poems and was able to understand cultural way of writing Asian literature.I wrote an essay and did a Powerpoint where I demostrate my knowlege gained about Asian Americanand other cultures.
