Rivera: MLO3
I am a Spanish major with an emphasis on Literature and Cultural Knowledge. In order for me to fulfill MLO 3 I took five courses where my understanding about culture and literature broader. I took a couple of culture courses where I was able to learn and understand different kinds of cultures. I took Spanish 308; History and Culture of Aztlan: Southwestern US. In this course I was able to develop a reasonable understanding of the history and values about the Aztlan culture. This class was interesting because I was able to choose my own research topic. I felt confident with the topic I chose and was able to develop my understanding and knowledge depending on my topic of interest. I was also to fulfill with this MLO outcome, by learning about different cultures, about the values, and beliefs of other cultures. Such in this course Spanish 316; this course is about Culture and civilization of Spain. There was a lot of lecture that I had to get done for the class, my reading became better. I took a course where my understanding about culture broader and the course was span 306 Culture and civilization of Spanish Latin America. I did a presentation about Los Incas Civilication; it was interesting to learn about this civilization about its culture. I compare it with other civilization’s culture, and gain knowledge about some civilization’s culture. Here is an example of my work. The lecture where not difficult to understand but they were some new word for me, that I learned. I also took literature courses which help me met this MLO outcomes. I learn about Hispanic literate through the many courses I took. I took Spanish 310; Hispanic children’s literature, in this class I was able to read literature for children, and make up literature for children. I was able to identify the purpose of why authors write literature for children. Here is a video and a paper that goes with the video were I show my ability gained in this class. I was able to understand the author's beliefs for writing literature for children. Another literature course I took was Spanish 330; Hispanic testimonials, in this class I learned about the history of many Hispanic authors such as Rosario Ferre, and Diego Rivera. All the reading was in Spanish which I was able to have a better understanding of the Hispanic literature. I met this MLO 3 outcome upon completion of this course; I was able to identify issues within testimonials narratives in relation to specific historical and cultural contexts in different countries in Spanish America and Spanish Caribbean.
