MLO 5: Cultural Praxis
The MLO 5 is one of the most enjoyable MLO to complete because this MLO 5 demonstrates my ability to interact with the Hispanic culture. There are several paths to complete this cultural praxis such as studying abroad, living and working in a local heritage community, and merging into different cultural events. In my experience I lived in a Spanish speaking community for about eighteen years.
I was born in Oaxaca, Mexico where I lived for eighteen years. During these years I learned about the culture of Oaxaca and Mexico as well. I enjoyed all the fiestas and cultural events from my state and the surrounding areas. Since I lived in Oaxaca for several years I had the opportunity to attend school. Some of the school levels I attended in Oaxaca were preschool, middle school, high school and some equivalent to college (Centro de Bachillerato Tecnologico Agropecuario). In these schools I learned a verity of subjects from natural science, social science, physics, mathematics, history, geography, biology, civics, Spanish, English, agriculture among other course, all taught in Spanish. Therefore I’m a fluent Spanish speaker with a strong writing, oral and listening skills.
Since I have been living in the United States, I had visited my family in Mexico about tree time, but this has not stopped me from practicing my native language. Here in the United States I live in Greenfield which has a large Spanish speaking population community. I love living here because I feel like living in a piece of Mexico where the majority of the population speaks Spanish. Also, in Greenfield a large Mexican population living there brings several cultural events to town which makes me feel I’m still in Mexico. The best part of it is that I have to opportunity to be connected to with my native culture and language.
