Olmos: MLO2
MLO 2: Language and Linguistic Knowledge
The student develops an understanding of the structure of the Spanish language and is able to use an appropriate level of formality according to the situation, whether in writing or in speech.
In order to complete MLO 2 took two courses which were enriching to my understanding of what composes the Spanish language and to why it sounds the way it does. In order to complete these MLO I completed the classes Spanish 313 (linguistics) and Spanish 301 (Spanish composition and Oral Practice). SPAN 301 gave me the knowledge of knowing how to use the Spanish language in an appropriate way, also simply getting better with speaking and writing. SPAN 313, also gave me the opportunity to learn the differences between the Spanish of different Spanish speaking countries. Also SPAN 301 gave us the opportunity to develop more our righting skills because we could have a lot of writings, as well as our listening and comprehension skills because we watched various movies through the semester. We also had the opportunity to learn why and how words are pronounced in a certain way. Also how the Spanish language developed from a mixture of different languages and learning how it when from Latin to the Spanish we speak now a days. In general both classes were enriching to my understanding of the Spanish language and its variations.
I have included two examples that demonstrate the work I did to reach this MLO, I included a PowerPoint which was about an assignment we did were we had to interview an English speaking student who was still learning Spanish and watch their pronunciation. Also from this we were to identity how they used vocals or vowels in English for and try to use them in Spanish which then makes the word sound weird. Also I have included two of the exams that I took for SPAN 313 which demonstrate the material I learned.
