MLO 2: Language and Linguistics Knowledge
The major language outcome 2: The language and linguistic knowledge was completed with a variety of classes and experiences through my college path. Spanish 301: Composition and Oral practice and Spanish 302: History and Phonetic Structure of Spanish Language was the two main courses allowed me to enhance my educational Spanish language and linguistic knowledge. This course molded my language level making it more formal according to the situation, and whether it was writing or in speech.
In the Spanish 301: Composition and Oral practice course we completed exercised that improved my writing, reading, and oral communication. By reviewing grammar rules, and how to use the correct verb tenses in certain situations, my communication in written and oral have been greatly developed. One of my greatest difficulties has always been presenting to an audience. The nervous that occur when delivery a presentation at times conflicts with what I am attempting to communicate. Being able to present in a great deal of times in class allowed me to develop my oral speech when presenting. Some of the pointers
I acknowledge from the presentations was to stay calm when speaking and overall trying not to rush out what I am trying to communicating. Having numerous presentations in this course help allowed me to develop my presenting skills. In this same course we wrote many compositions where I was able to mature my vocabulary use. By electing from a greater range of formal vocabulary that we learn in class.
Spanish 302: History and Phonetic Structure of the Spanish Language course has provided me with the language structure that I had not had the opportunity to study. Learning the phonetic structure of Spanish has given me the chance to learn another fundamental part of the language. Giving me more of an understanding in the correct way to pronounce different sounds, which has enhanced my oral communication. A huge part of this course was learning how to transcribe sentences into what they actually sound. We began with small sentences and then we were able to transcribe full paragraphs. Doing these exercises really help distinguish sounds and help get more of basic idea of the Spanish phonetic structure.
Overall, taking both of these courses enhanced my language and linguistic knowledge. Even though I am a native Spanish speaker, this course allowed me to formalize my Spanish. I discovered a whole new range of vocabulary and how to appropriately use it, in both composition and oral communication. Allowing me to become a better presenter.
