MLO 6: Information Technology Literacy
Technology is very important in our daily life. The use of technology is really important in order to complete schoolwork because with it you are able to research in the web for projects and use the Internet to help you in schoolwork.
For me technology is very useful because I use it to research information in the web such articles, books, encyclopedias and journals online to do a better work in class and in research papers. I also use the computer to type my school papers, to keep my classes work and records and to communicate with my teachers and faculty thru email. To acquire more knowledge about technology and how to use different programs from the computer I took a technology class my first semester at CSUMB. I too CST 101 Technology Tools course, in this class I was able to get more knowledge about Microsoft words, excel and PowerPoint. I learned how to find effective articles online and the different between primary and secondary sources. I did a research paper assignment, a PowerPoint including my own voice video in there. In this class in total I did seven assignment using different programs. I learned how to create zip folders and convert documents from Microsoft word to PDS. The most interesting thing I did in this class was that I created my own Internet page with my name on it. At the beginning this assignment was very hard for me because I wasn’t really good using technology and because I didn’t have any experience creating web pages. At the beginning I was having difficulties because the tables at my web page were in blank and my assignments did not appeared on it even that I was following the steps and directions. I had to spend a lot of time and getting help from the teacher in order to complete this assignment. My web page became perfect and the end with my picture on it and my seven assignments from the class in there including links for my email and other personal information. In this class I learned a lot and nowadays I can apply my knowledge to complete school projects. For example I always use PowerPoint to make class presentation and now I am able to include sound, music and videos in the PowerPoint. In some of my Spanish classes such Span 310 Child Literature, Hcom 329 Autobiographies, I was able to make nice videos with pictures, transitions, effects, music and my own voice on it because I learned how to make a video in my technology class. In most of my classes I did PowerPoint presentations successful with the use of technology.
I also took Hcom 389 Otter Realm where I was part of the school newspaper. In this class I learned how to edit paper on Microsoft word and show the tract changes. I also learned how to write just important points for a good report or news and hide all the extra information. Also sometimes I helped in the production class editing the news fro the newspaper. In this class I improve my grammar and vocabulary and I apply the knowledge to write in my other classes.
Taking the CST 101 course technology tools and the reporter class HCOM 389 helped me to do great in my classes using technology to make videos, PowerPoint’s and use different programs such Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint etcetera. With these two courses I was able to fulfill the MLO 6 Information Technology Literacy successful.
