Martinez: MLO2
MLO 2 – Language and Linguistics Knowledge
In order to complete MLO 2 had to take two Spanish courses related to my major emphasis Literature and Culture. In these two courses I was able to develop an strong vocabulary, reduce grammar errors, identified words base on its vocal sound, and learned more about my own culture. During my fist semester at Monterey Bay University I took Spanish 301 Composition and Oral Practice. I felt that this class was easy because the vocabulary was basic and I had study Spanish most of my life. However this class was very helpful to improve my speaking and writing abilities by doing classwork and homework in the text “ El Libro del Lector”. This textbook included short stories to reflect on it and activities, exercises to prove the comprehension, filling the blank exercises helped me to think about what I had just read and refresh my memory. Also in this class I wrote weekly journals about one of my activities every weekend and then I had to share it on Monday class. In this class I was also able to write several compositions about popular sayings (refranes) that we knew from our culture but also teacher gave us the topic sometimes.
Another course that I took is Spanish 305 for the Professions. This class was very interesting because I have to make translation from Spanish to English or vise versa. At the beginning it was hard for me to translate because the words were complicated especially the business vocabulary as I wasn’t familiar with business words. At the beginning it was a challenge doing my first translations but then I was able translate easily by doing the readings and reviewing class lectures. In this class improve my vocabulary and was able to write formally. I learned to write my own Resume, Purpose of Statements, different types of letter such for friends, business, invitation, condolences, job, and bank etcetera. I learned how to prepared myself for a job interview, the questions that I should have in mind in an interview. In other words I was preparing myself as a professional in different fields. Even if Spanish is my primary language before talking this class my vocabulary was weak, but after this course I realized that I learned a lot and improve my vocabulary level using more professional and formal words. In this class I took quizzes, midterms and final were I was able to prove that I was bilingual and able to make translations, write formal and follow directions. The class assignments were interesting because most of the time we were writing different types of letters, evaluating articles, making translations and working in groups. In this class I also did a PowerPoint presentation about Paraguay country and talk about the economic and basic information.
Taking these two courses Spanish 301 and Spanish 305 helped me to fullfill my MLO 2 effectively. I also learned a lot from these classes; and now I can apply what I got n our society and actual life because most of the people are bilingual and at jobs you are requited to speak as a professional level.
The following papers are some of the work that I did from the courses above.
Sample 1: Composition #3, SPAN 301

Sample 3: Exam 1, SPAN 305
Sample 4: Invitation, SPAN 305
