MLO #3- Literary and Cultural Knowledge
The literary and cultural knowledge of the Spanish language has been the piece of my study that I have enjoyed the most. It has transformed the way I see other cultures and their literature. Reading about another country’s history and learning how they have advance and become the societies that they are now fascinates me the most. In the Spanish course 306, I learned the geographical area of South America, this course help me understand what each country’s economy was based on and their form of trade. I liked how the teacher focused in detailed, how each country relied on the natural resources that they have in order to making a working society.
In the Spanish course 310, it was a Child Literature class; it focused in stories for children. I had never enjoyed myself drawing and exploring once again the way a child learns at his early age. This course required, us the students, to put ourselves at a children’s level and start from zero and work our way up in the teaching of Spanish. We first started reading some of the common children’s stories, and then we made our own illustrated short story book. This project was really fun. We got the opportunity to discover our imagination and play with art. It helped me understand how our brain works when we try to teach some else something like a language. We have to put ourselves to the level of the person being thought in order to accomplish a result, and this class was an excellent way to learn this method.
In the course 322, we have learned another aspect of the Latin culture, we have learned about some of the country’s political systems trough literature works. In many of the literature works that we explored were formatted in a satirical way. They explained the political system of certain countries and its irony trough the author’s point of view. This course helped me be more aware of the political systems of other countries as well as how the people in those countries see their country.
In the course 308, we studied about the culture of México and the United State. It starts form the beginning of México as a country then it goes to the Treaty of Guadalupe when México handed land to the United States. In tis course I learned more about the history of Mexico and the conflict with the US. I learned about the political system from both countries and effects after the division of land in the states of Texas, New Mexico and other states.
These courses have helped me be more informed of different aspects of the countries. I have learned this through literature works, class assignments and through practice. The culture of the countries has been one of the most interesting things I have enjoyed the most and to be more specific he geographical aspect is really fascinating.
