MLO- #1 Language Proficiency
My Spanish proficiency satisfies everyday situations and routine school and work requirements. I am a native Spanish speaker therefore I am able to talk about facts, current public and personal interests and casual conversations using general vocabulary. Native speakers can understand my speaking abilities without difficulties. My listening abilities are also good. I am able to understand main ideas that are being explained. I can understand the details of connected courses on a variety of topics. The courses that have helped me are Spanish 301, 303 and 321.
In the Spanish course 301 I leaned about the Spanish composition. This was one of the first courses that I took at CSUMB. In this course I learned how to pronounce and write Spanish in a formal manner. It was the first challenge to see my level of understanding of the language. In this course we practice through readings in the classroom from Spain and other Latin American countries. We had a course book and we would work on grammar and the proper way of composing Spanish essays.
In the course 303, we learned about the Spanish grammar. In this class I made an enormous advancement in my understanding of the Spanish language by practicing my grammar skills. It wasn’t easy but I did learned a lot from it. I learned about the punctuation of Spanish. This skill is hard to manage but with the professor that we had for the course, he made it easier. The book that we used gave really detailed examples and what was nice about this book that it also had an online website were we could practice for future exams.
In the course 321, we learned to appreciate the different literature works by reading a variety of short stories. In class, we would read out loud or in groups. By doing this it helped me be able to understand different words used in other countries. I was also able to read fluently in Spanish and helped me practice my speech skills. We also had to do a presentation of a short story we had read in class, when we did the presentation I was able to prove the professor the level of efficiency in Spanish. I enjoyed taking this course because I was able to learn about other countries.
In these courses I was able to improve my skills in Spanish by practicing my grammar, my reading skills and my presentation skills to my professors. I enjoyed ever class but mostly having the opportunity to be in classes with so many great professors. I learned to appreciate other cultures as well as other forms of literature works.
