Grover: Service Learning
Service Learning
Because I am a double major, I was not required to take an additional service learning course for the Spanish
Major. However, while my service learning in the Business Major was more focused on business concepts, I also
utilized and strengthened my Spanish. I was working with the First Tee of Monterey County in Salinas, tutoring
and teaching life skills to elementary school children. Many of these children were native Spanish speakers and
needed translations. I was also responsible for calling parents on the telephone to inform them of upcoming
events. Many of these parents spoke only Spanish.
This experience was a great opportunity to solidify my Spanish speaking skills while simultaneously gain
community involvement experience. I learned a lot from the First Tee and am proud of the many hours I
volunteered at this organization.
