Information Technology Literacy
All the upper division classes require the use of some kind of technology since in all of them I was required to do
some research papers on specific topics. On these days it is almost impossible to do a research paper without
the help of the internet. Those essays were required to be typed and they should meet the Modern Language
Association or MLA guidelines. For example, during mid-terms I was required to write research papers and then
give a presentation to the class using presentation softwares. I was required to use PowerPoint or other
programs such as Prezi. However, through my upper division courses I learned how to use the CSUMB
database. Now I can search the web and locate peer review journals and articles faster. Definitively I used all the
skills I was taught during my upper division courses while doing capstone. While doing capstone I started my
research using the CSUMB database and then I went to the web looking for more information regarding my topic.
I spend many hours typing my research paper and looking for information. I also used the web for reference
about the MLA and other questions. On capstone or WLC 400 the instructor also created an agenda or calendar
using Excel so we could keep tract of the upcoming events, such as due dated and deadlines. I used this
calendar to write notes and to keep track of my work. For WLC 400 I was required to make a presentation based
on my research paper. This presentation had to be digital, which it is why I decided to use PowerPoint. I also
took one online class (SPAN 308). Through this class I was able to do everything I used to do on a regular class
but through the internet. For example, for SPAN 308 I was required to do a presentation. I did it using PowerPoint
so I recorded my voice so my classmates could have the same experience as if we were in the classroom.
